How about a seriously feel good tune for this Friday’s Weekend Tunage? ‘Little Talks’ seems to be the perfect song for today. I’ve been whistling this all week long, it’s the first song I’ve been playing when I wake up every morning and I can’t help but leave the house with a giant grin on my face.
‘Little Talks’ is the latest single from Of Monsters and Men’s debut album My Head Is An Animal. Powerful folk pop with the emotion and shouty group vocals to content with the likes of Arcade Fire. The band made their American television debut on Jimmy Kimmel last week, check out their performance below.
My Head Is An Animal is out now. [iTunes]
The name Ships may seem familiar – Chris posted about this new Dublin band and their super catchy tune ‘You’re Gonna Feel It’ a few weeks back, and since then a bit more info has been shared with us about the release of the song itself – which it deserves to be shared. Turns out it’s part of a limited double A-side 7″ vinyl release from Synth Eastwood, that will also feature fellow Dublin band I Am Cosmos and their track ‘Take What You Want’.
Synth Eastwood is a collaborative art group that has been knocking around Dublin for a while now. I remember attending a few of their art exhibitions back when I was living in Dublin, always a good time. This is their first foray into music and they’ve picked two mighty fine up-and-coming bands to start with.
Both the tracks have a definite dance-floor feel. Take a listen to the I Am Cosmos tune below, and Ships again after the jump. Launch party for the single release is being held at the Sugar Club on Friday 25th May (tkts are €10). Both bands will play on the night, along with DJ sets by David Kitt and Lil’ Dave.
The first 50 people in the door will receive a crisp new copy of the record with artwork supplied by John Cowhie. Bargin!
Toronto band Bravestation released a new track yesterday ‘Tides of the Summit’, it’s taken from their forthcoming debut LP Giants & Dreamers. The band announced the details of the album yesterday, which is to be released on July 10 – 2 years after their 2010 EP and perfect timing for some summer listening.
‘Tides of the Summit’ follows on in the similar chilled vibe of ‘Signs of the Civilized’, with the ever present Tribal feel, evident in everything down to the lyrics. If you’re a fan of Wild Beasts you may dig these guys.
Giants & Dreamers is available to pre-order here (‘Tides of the Summit’ is available for free).
This is a must watch for anyone with an interest in Ireland’s DIY music scene. Hats off to all involved.

Title track from Best Coast’s second offering here for you. It doesn’t exactly suit the crappy weather today, but what the hell.

Electronic musician Nicolas Jaar is up to somthing quite interesting at the moment. I came across this article yesterday on Creative Review Blog, it highlighted a new music format that Nicolas Jaar and his label Clown & Sunset are pioneering.

This post serves as a bit of a reminder of sorts. Reptar are a band that we’ve been listening to a lot over the last year, and today they finally released their debut album Body Faucet. 2011 saw the band produce one of my favorite EP’s of the year, Oblangle Fizz Y’all, and I’ve been waiting paitently for their album since then.
Hexes & Ohs are an electro pop duo from Montreal who got in touch with us recently about their album Thank You which is being released on May 22. ‘The Colors’ is the first track to be shared from the album, and it’s available to listen & download for free below.
Their sound is something that’s right up our alley, ‘The Colors’ is a laid back tune that will have you bobbing your head in approval. There’s something almost twee-like with their sound, but I like it. I’ve had a sneak peek of the album, and it’s definitely worth checking out – if you’re a fan of The Whitest Boy Alive, Death Cab for Cutie, or even the super poppy Hellogoodbye (remember them?!), you’ll like Hexes & Ohs.
The album is available to pre-order here. Let us know what you think. Accompanying video for the track is below the jump.
