There are four tracks that I keep coming back to over the last few weeks, and they make up Ghost City USA, an EP from NYC boy/girl duo MS MR. The EP consists of three original tracks, plus a cover of Patrick Wolf’s ‘Time of my Life’ (which I’m almost preferring over the original). I haven’t enjoyed alt pop music this much since Marina and the Diamonds’ earlier songs.
There’s two things I noticed when listening:
1. The vocals (how much are you loving her voice right now?)
2. The tunes themselves, I couldn’t help coming back to the songs – they are firmly lodged in my brain.
The band’s identity is pretty much a mystery, but I’ve a sneaking suspicion who the female vocalist might be – and if I’m right then it’ll be a pleasant surprise to those who follow indie pop & the respective labels. Take a listen to ‘Time of my Life’ and ‘Bones’ below, if you like what you hear, the EP is available to download for free. Plenty of time has passed since this EP was first released, so the question stands, when are we going to hear more?

Today sees the unveiling of ‘Heaven’, a brand new track from The Walkmen and the timing is pretty fitting. It just so happens that I spent the last week delving back into the band’s back catalogue and wondering when we were going to get a new album from them again. A few days falling back in love with tracks such as ‘We’ve Been Had’, ‘The Rat’ and ‘In The New Year’ was time well spent. It’s kind of crazy to think that they’ve been around for 10 years.
‘Heaven’ is also the title of the new album. In a recent write up on the Fat Possum artist page, the band reveal that with this new record they’re aiming to make a bigger, more generous statement. The album is set to be release June 5th on Fat Possum.

Serious contender for pop album of the year? I think so. (via hypem)
Weekend Tunage came and went this weekend without a sound, but I didn’t forget about Sunday Supplement! This Sunday’s tune choice has a bit of a holiday feel to it, as I’m off to the sun for the next 7 days. Listening to Beirut always leaves me with a smile on my face, images of places afar and care-free journeys. ‘Vagabond’ is one of my favorite tracks from last year’s The Rip Tide. Enjoy.
We’ll return to normal posting in a week!

Toronto, Jazz, Hip Hop, 3 Kids and a Pig’s Mask = ?. Sounds like a random list, but these things plus so much more make up BadBadNotGood, a jazz fusion trio that are currently causing a bit of a stir here in Toronto.
‘Interference’ is good. Really fucking good. You know that feeling when you hear a snippet of a song for the first time and you have to find out who the artist is and subsequently anything they have released to date. That’s what it felt like when I heard this track for the first time. Turns out the band behind it, Breton, are a group of sickeningly talented lads.
Breton are: Roman Rappak, Daniel Mcilvenny, Adam Ainger, Ian Patterson and Ryan McClarnon, a collective of filmakers & artists from London who eventually turned to music as a means to soundtrack their visuals, this then organically grew into a fully fledged band. Creative HQ is BretonLABS, a disused bank where they record and film all their pieces. Their debut album Other People’s Problems is getting a release on Fat Cat Records on March 26th. A day later, March 27th the band play The Academy 2 in Dublin. Tickets are on sale now, an absolute steal for 12 Euro.
The Friday’s tune comes form Belgium band Great Mountain Fire. This past week I’ve given their album Canopy more plays than is good for one’s health, but it’s ok as the album is that good.
It’s got an indie folk vibe, with some group vocals thrown in for good measure. The album is so damm catchy I found it hard to choose just one song, so instead here’s two songs from the band to kick start your weekend. ‘Crooked Head’ and ‘Late Lights’

Reptar are a band that kept me dancing all summer long, with their unique brand of danceable tropical pop on their debut EP Oblangle Fizz Y’all the Athens, GA band are one to watch. They finally announced their full lenght debut last week, it’s called Body Faucet and has a May 1th release date on Vagrant. ‘Sebastian’ is the first single to be released form the album. The more I listen to them and this new track, the more I think lead singer Graham Ulicny must be Ezra Koenig’s musical long lost cousin.
Take a listen to the track below, are we’ve also got an exclusive free download of it here.
There’s also a album preview video below, which features one other new track.
