School of Seven Bells (SVIIB), now a duo after one of the twins, Claudia, left the band, are to release their third album on the 28th of this month. But if you want to get your fix of the excellent Ghostory before then, check it out below! The album is energetic, awash with textures and big [...]
Ok so there’s two reasons I’m posting this video.
1. The designer in me freaked when I realized the visuals directly compliment the color scheme of our site & logo. Yes, that is a good enough reason to post.
2. The tune is catchy as fuck.
Jonquil are part of Oxford music collective Blessing Force, home to other acts such as Trophy Wife (ex memebers of Jonquil) & Chad Valley. ‘It’s My Part’ is taken from the bands forthcoming third album – Point of Go.
If you’re interested as to how they got to the point of releasing their third album, their facebook bio sums it up quite nicely:
recorded an album in our bedrooms // released an album // played a few shows // recorded another album in a deserted house // toured all over europe // built a studio // built another studio // went to america // recorded an album in a proper studio
Listen & enjoy.

We’re taking on a slight change of pace with this Weekend’s Tunage, and a step back to 2006. An album that I’ve gone back to over the past few weeks is Midlake’s The Trials of Van Occupanther, a classic no frills indie/folk rock album. ‘Young Bride’ is my hands down favorite. Before there was Fleet Foxes, Midlake were top of the pile for me – turn this up, it’ll ease your weekend into goodness.
Chairlift’s album Something is fast becoming my most played since the start of the year. Have a listen to the album in full above, if you like 80′s inspired pop this will make for a nice mid-week listen. Something is available now on iTunes.
It’s hard to believe that ‘Family’ is The Cast of Cheers first proper debut single. The band have been on many an Irish fans radar since they released their debut EP Chariot as a free download on bandcamp back in 2010. They’re a band that all of us felt had an insane amount of potential, so it’s great to see them get a traditional label release. On the back of this news, I spent the evening delving back into Chariot, it’s still sounding just as good and exciting two years later.
‘Family’ is to be released on 20th February 2012 on School Boy Error/Cooperative Music.
Jape has also completed a remix of the track, which you can download for free below.
The first time I heard anything by Matthew Dear, it was in remix form – his take on The XX’s track VCR pretty much blew my mind. Since then he’s released Black City in 2010 and now 2012 sees the release of an EP, Headage. The most intruging track from the EP is ‘In The Middle (I Met You There)’ featuring vocals from Jonny Pierce of The Drums.
The accompanying video, directed by Morgan Beringer, is lush textural feast on the eyes. Headage is available to buy for download here.

If there is but one band that we whole-heartidily wish success in 2012, Clock Opera is the one. I’ve been a long time fan of the band, first falling in love with Guy Connelly’s various remixes and then witnessing Clock Opera grow into a fully flegded four piece band with an output of exciting original music.
Clock Opera have done things the right way, nothing has been rushed and they’ve taken the time to grow their craft and their intricate tunes. Last year’s ‘Belongings’ was one of my highlights of the year.
Their debut album is titled Ways to Forget, and will be released on 9th April. Ahead of this, the band are re-releasing ‘Once and For All’ as a single (it was slightly reworked for the album). The accompanying video (below) is the perfect tie in to the song. The affecting and poignant visuals bring the almost regretful lyrics to life in a beautiful way. If watching this clip doesn’t inspire you to get up and take on 2012 with full force then nothing will.
You can pre-order Ways to Forget on iTunes here. I’ve a feeling I’m going to spending a lot of time with this album in 2012.
