The Clink favorite Active Child just updated his tour schedule today & it’s got some dates of interest. Namely the Toronto on May 15 @ Lee’s Palace. For folks back home, the closest he’s getting to Ireland is London on Feb 20th. After being blown away by Active Child when he played The Garrison last year, it’s good to see him graduate to a large venue for this round of gigs. Support is going to be from the ever wonderful Balam Acab – seeing both these guys play on the same night is not something I’ll be turning down, consider my ticket bought.
At The Clink we mostly try to bring you quality tunes that are brand spanking new, but Weekend Tunage and especially Sunday Supplement give us the chance to look back a couple of years and pull out some either forgotten or never before checked out gems. Like this one, ‘Don’t Mind Me’ from Waterford’s O Emperor.
I’m not sure how this one passed me by? If ‘I Won’t Worry’ had made it’s way through my headphones earlier, it more than likely would have been top of my summer playlist, hell maybe even my summer feel good anthem.
‘I Wont Worry’ has got the feel good pop sensibilities of the type of tunes you’d expect from Cork band Fred (<3), but with added synths and infectious hand clapping to up the party feel of the tune. Adding to the recent roster of Irish bands making some damn fine pop tunes, This Club are a welcome addition to my music library.
The band have already finished recording their debut album, in Mississippi with Dennis Herring – it’s set to be released on Warner Music Ireland.
Judging form the energetic performance in the video for the track (below), This Club put on a good show, even with without instruments in tow!

Heineken Green Spheres free live gigs series are a long time favorite of The Clink, they always manage to get a stellar line up of acts, it’s organized to the tee and it’s all bloody FREE.
For the final event of the year Heineken Green Spheres are putting on a mammoth series of free shows, not one but four! All taking place across Dublin.
The line up is as follows:
Thu 1st Dec @ The VIllage; Drums + Cloud Control
Fri 2nd Dec @ the Olympia; Aloe Blacc
Sat 3rd Dec @ The Academy; Wild Beasts + Summer Camp
Sat 3rd Dec @ Workmans; SBTRKT
Interested? Yeah, I thought so. You can apply for free tickets at heinekenmusic.ie up until Nov 11th.
If I had to choose one gig only to attend (and it’s hard), it would have to be Wild Beasts + Summer Camp. Smother, Wild Beasts third studio album is glorious and gets better with every listen. While Summer Camp are just coming out with their debut full length and it’s goood. Both should put together a damn fine evening of music.
Some tunes from each of the bands mentioned are featured below.
The Drums – ‘I Need a Doctor’
Cloud Control – ‘There’s Nothing in the Water We Can’t Fight’

Dubliner James Vincent McMorrow has hit the ground running since his debut album “Early In The Morning” was released in Ireland last year. There was the Choice Music Prize nomination, and a triumphant return to this years Electric Picnic which saw him play two stunning sets. But all the work isn’t done yet.
James and his band are currently on tour in the US and Canada building up significant buzz along the way. I chatted to him this week ahead of his sold out Toronto show at El Mocambo. Arriving at the venue just after sound check, we got talking about the album, touring, some interesting collaborations, and…The Neptunes!
Both The Go! Team & Star Slinger are playing Electric Picnic this weekend, and this track by the two of them is bound to kick off your weekend right. Apollo Throwdow (Star Slinger Remix), enjoy. The Go! Team Apollo Throwdown (Star Slinger Remix) by Star Slinger
