    Weekend Tunage: Santigold

    Santigold

Stanigold’s debut album Santogold was the soundtrack to my summer in ’08, and I’ve been a massive fan of the lady since. This week saw the release of her follow up album Master Of My Make Believe, if you haven’t had the chance to check it out – I recommend you get on it, your ears will thank you later. ‘Disparate Youth’, on of the lead tracks from the album is a tune that has been floating around for a while, a blissful slow burning track with attitude in the lyrics to match. The perfect kick start for your weekend.

Check out the video after the jump.

Video: Foster The People – “Houdini”

DANIELS have been directing up a storm lately, putting together music videos for the likes of The Shins & Manchester Orchestra along with a slew of advertising. The talented duo have probably completed their biggest production to date with this video for Foster The People’s ‘Houdini’. Ever wondered the lengths a record label would go to if one of their bands died before a big show? Watch and find out.

Reptar – ‘Body Faucet’ [Released Today]

    Reptar - Body Faucet

This post serves as a bit of a reminder of sorts. Reptar are a band that we’ve been listening to a lot over the last year, and today they finally released their debut album Body Faucet. 2011 saw the band produce one of my favorite EP’s of the year, Oblangle Fizz Y’all, and I’ve been waiting paitently for their album since then.

    Hexes & Ohs

Hexes & OhsHexes & Ohs are an electro pop duo from Montreal who got in touch with us recently about their album Thank You which is being released on May 22. ‘The Colors’ is the first track to be shared from the album, and it’s available to listen & download for free below.

Their sound is something that’s right up our alley, ‘The Colors’ is a laid back tune that will have you bobbing your head in approval. There’s something almost twee-like with their sound, but I like it. I’ve had a sneak peek of the album, and it’s definitely worth checking out – if you’re a fan of The Whitest Boy Alive, Death Cab for Cutie, or even the super poppy Hellogoodbye (remember them?!), you’ll like Hexes & Ohs.

The album is available to pre-order here. Let us know what you think. Accompanying video for the track is below the jump.

    Ms Mr

    ms mr

There are four tracks that I keep coming back to over the last few weeks, and they make up Ghost City USA, an EP from NYC boy/girl duo MS MR. The EP consists of three original tracks, plus a cover of Patrick Wolf’s ‘Time of my Life’ (which I’m almost preferring over the original). I haven’t enjoyed alt pop music this much since Marina and the Diamonds’ earlier songs.

There’s two things I noticed when listening:

    1. The vocals (how much are you loving her voice right now?)
    2. The tunes themselves, I couldn’t help coming back to the songs – they are firmly lodged in my brain.

The band’s identity is pretty much a mystery, but I’ve a sneaking suspicion who the female vocalist might be – and if I’m right then it’ll be a pleasant surprise to those who follow indie pop & the respective labels. Take a listen to ‘Time of my Life’ and ‘Bones’ below, if you like what you hear, the EP is available to download for free. Plenty of time has passed since this EP was first released, so the question stands, when are we going to hear more?

New: Metric – “Youth Without Youth”

Metric-Youth-Without-Youth Today see’s the unveiling of some new music from Canadian favorites Metric. They announced their new album Synthetica a while back, it’s got a June 12th release date.

‘Youth Without Youth’ is the first track to be released from the album, Emily Haines & Co. haven’t strayed too far off the beaten track, but it’s a punchy number that will have you hitting repeat. More than enough to keep fans occupied until the album release.

Soundbite: Florence + the Machine – Breath of Life

Florence + the Machine unveiled a new track yesterday, titled ‘Breath of Life’ -it’s to be featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming Kristen Stewart film, Snow White & The Huntsmen. It’s got a seriously cinematic vibe to it – which makes sense, seeing as it’s soundtracking a pretty epic looking film.

The track is available to download today in Ireland here.
